Deloitte SEA Innovation Day

Deloitte Indonesia kicked off this year’s SEA Innovation Day Series at their Jakarta office with over 125 people present, eager to hear about the latest news from our Deloitte SEA Innovation team, the team from Deloitte Cognitive Analytics Solution Centre (CASC), as well as the CEOs of three prominent local startups – Qlue, CitaRasa Prima (CRP Group), and Kata.ai. 

Manila, Philippines

In addition to the team from CASC, three of the Philippines’s most recognised startups were represented at the event.

Ron Hose (Founder & CEO of Coins.ph) stressed the importance of listening to consumers while Florentin Lenoir (Chief of Staff & VP for Verification at LenddoEFL) explained their methods for capturing ‘non-traditional’ data and interpreting it. Paul Rivera (Co-Founder & CEO of Kalibrr) emphasized the importance of finding a problem worth caring about before coming up with a startup idea.

In his closing address, Dr. Janson Yap (Deloitte SEA Risk Advisory Partner and former Deloitte SEA Innovation Leader) reminded the participants of the importance of keeping abreast of technological trends so that they can help their clients navigate in a fast-changing world. 

Hanoi & Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

Deloitte Vietnam held its inaugural Innovation Day at both our Hanoi and Ho Chih Minh offices.

An Ideation Lab was conducted by the Deloitte SEA Innovation team asking participants to come up with ideas to solve problems that were identified prior to the start of the session. They had to pitch their ideas and these were reviewed by a panel of judges. Proposals from both offices largely focused on the themes of streamlined work process, soft skill development and ways of fostering closer client relationships.

As such initiatives continue to gain traction in Vietnam, Deloitte Vietnam Tax Partner Minh Bui said, “Our people need to understand how to cultivate their ideas and act on them. We need to nurture an environment where people will not be afraid of failure, stand up for their ideas, and take a stance on what they believe in”.

Innovators from around the region gathered to share their thoughts and showcased their work at Deloitte Singapore’s Innovation Day. The morning kicked off with panel sessions – ‘The Dialogue’ – during which Deloitte leaders and experts from the field of innovation debated the opportunities of innovation for professional services and how they could be realised, as well as the risks of ignoring the real potential for digital disruption in the sector.

Attendees were given the opportunity to engage with the Innovation community during the event, especially at ‘The Showcase’ which presented best-in-class innovations from a range of business representatives. Projects displayed showed the blending of mobile technologies and advanced analytics, underpinned by key innovation disciplines. In conjunction with showcased successes, ‘The Incubator’ provided an opportunity for the next wave of Deloitte’s innovators to discuss their ideas with experts and potential collaborators.

Attendees were also given the chance to experience first-hand how innovation labs are conducted in our Greenhouse and learned how to access the support of the SEA Innovation team to support their innovation efforts.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Speakers from within and out of Deloitte gave much food for thought on the role of technology in innovation at the Deloitte Kuala Lumpur office.

Deloitte Malaysia Country Managing Partner Yee Wing Peng and Deloitte Malaysia Innovation Leader Justin Ong shared their journey and perspectives on innovating for Deloitte. Giving an external viewpoint was Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC)’s Vice-President for Investment & Industry Development, Hew Wee Choong, economy for Malaysia and the region.

More varied voices were heard through the panel sessions with innovation representatives from five different businesses within Deloitte, and then with various startup bosses who shed more light on operational considerations and the impact that their work in innovation can bring to people, with or without digital technology.
