Building an accessible future

We are one year into our accessibility journey, which commenced with the launch of our AccessAbility Action Plan (AAP), building an accessible future. We’re pleased to launch the first annual report to track our progress along the four pillars of our AAP: Inclusive Environment, Education and Awareness, Employment and Marketplace.

As you’ll see in this update, we’ve made progress under all four pillars and included focus areas for the next year. Our goal is to lead the way in realizing a vision of accessibility that is transformative not only for our firm but for our clients, communities, and the future of Canada.

Continuing to build an accessible future

Deloitte’s commitment to accessibility

Creating an inclusive Deloitte for people with disabilities means that we can hire the best talent, retain, and promote them. It means that we are creating an inclusive future which focuses on abilities, not disabilities.

Deloitte is proud to publish its first AccessAbility Action Plan (AAP), a simple but comprehensive approach to accessibility. This plan is by no means the start of our journey, but it does clearly set out our path to a more accessible and inclusive Deloitte for people with disabilities, and reaffirms our commitment to inspire our people, clients, and others to do the same. We believe that by bringing words to action we will create a better Deloitte, and a better Canada.

Each of us has a role to play in initiating the conversation and transforming the way we think, act, and do business. This Plan is our commitment to building a better future by accelerating and expanding access to knowledge and opportunities for all.

Inclusive leadership

At Deloitte, we are driven by our Purpose to make an impact that matters to our clients, our people, and our communities. We have learned, shared, and strived to become a more inclusive and accessible workplace. It is our belief that by doing so, we will become a more productive and profitable professional services firm.

In 2012, the federal government asked our general counsel at the time, Kenneth J. Fredeen, to chair a panel that studied and reported on marketplace opportunities for people with disabilities. The panel’s report, Rethinking disability in the private sector, was tabled in January 2013 and it received international attention and recognition. Since then, Mr. Fredeen and Deloitte Canada have been recognized for their accessibility leadership.
