Deloitte today launched Deloitte University Asia Pacific (DU AP) for its practitioners (employees), as part of its commitment to cultivate leadership skills at every level of the organization and ultimately serve clients better. Located in Singapore, DU AP will provide enriching learning experiences for its people to ensure Deloitte remains a place where leaders thrive and ideas prosper.

The University builds on the success of the Deloitte University in Westlake, Texas, USA; Deloitte University Europe, the Middle East and Africa (DU EMEA) in La Hulpe, Belgium and Chantilly, France; and Deloitte University in Hyderabad, India. Its curriculum mirrors the programmes that are delivered annually to Deloitte’s 230,000 practitioners, ensuring a consistency in curriculum regardless of geography. The curriculum in Asia Pacific will be tailored to the region’s business needs.

“Our single most important asset is our people and their learning and development is at the heart of our ability to successfully serve our clients,” said Punit Renjen, Deloitte Global CEO. “Through Deloitte University, we are investing in the professional, leadership, industry and technical skills of our practitioners across all levels, enhancing our ability to make an impact that matters for our clients, talent and communities. We are pleased to bring this programme to the Asia Pacific region which we see as a critical engine to the world’s future economic growth.”

The courses will be led by current Deloitte leaders who will share their knowledge and on-the-job experiences in a tailored classroom setting. The programmes within the DU AP curriculum have been designed to ensure that learning remains an integral part of the workplace and is practically applied in the most effective way. In FY17, nearly 1,000 practitioners are expected to participate in Deloitte University Asia Pacific’s programmes.

“The world is at a crossroads where more and more, business opportunities are shifting towards this region, attracted by a burgeoning talent pool and favourable business climate. The speed of change demands the development of a new generation of leaders that will write the coming Asia Pacific success story. DU AP is proud to play a role in contributing to this story and creating an impact that matters in the communities in which we live and work,” said Yoichiro Ogawa, Deloitte Asia Pacific Regional Managing Director.

“The opening of Deloitte University Asia Pacific in Singapore is a milestone for Deloitte in Asia Pacific, and would not have been possible without the tremendous support of the Singapore Government. Besides its central location in the region, we chose Singapore for the campus because of its role as a regional business centre and economic hub. Competition for talent in Asia Pacific in the coming years will be challenging. Deloitte University Asia Pacific will help us attract and retain talent by distinguishing Deloitte from competitors and demonstrating how our people positively impact the communities they live and work in,” said Ko Asami, Deloitte University Asia Pacific Dean.

Mr Kelvin Wong, Assistant Managing Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), commented: “The increasingly complex business environment and Asia’s rapid growth mean that business leaders will look to leading professional services firms to help them develop global and regional strategies. Professional services firms will be expected to provide specialist expertise and deep knowledge of individual markets, and create innovative solutions to support their clients in Asia and beyond. Deloitte’s decision to locate its first Asia Pacific campus in Singapore will be a great boost to talent development in Asia. It is also testament to Singapore’s strong talent base and its position as the centre of hub services in Asia.”

An opening ceremony took place on the campus premises today to celebrate the collective commitment taken by Deloitte's Asia Pacific country CEOs. Gracing the ceremony was Guest of Honour, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who delivered a short speech. The event was also attended by senior Deloitte executives, including Punit Renjen, Deloitte Global CEO; Yoichiro Ogawa, Deloitte Asia Pacific Regional Managing Director; Ko Asami, Deloitte University Asia Pacific Dean; Philip Yuen, CEO, Deloitte Southeast Asia and Singapore; and Chaly Mah, Former CEO - Retired, Deloitte Asia Pacific and Southeast Asia.
