Innovation & Assets Development Center (IADC) Open Day Inspires Innovation and Collaboration at Hong Kong Science Park

On 9 May 2024, the Deloitte Innovation & Assets Development Center (IADC) hosted an Open Day, offering attendees a comprehensive understanding of Deloitte's presence at Science Park and its contributions to Hong Kong's innovation and technology (I&T) ecosystem.

Since its inauguration on 1 March 2023, the IADC has been on a successful journey, and Deloitte is delighted to be a part of the vibrant Science Park community. The Open Day provided a platform for Park companies to gain a full understanding of the IADC and how it can support their business growth, thereby contributing to the overall I&T ecosystem. Furthermore, we are privileged to have had the participation of several Park companies with which Deloitte collaborates, whose representatives joined us as co-speakers to share their valuable insights and experiences.
The event attracted around 200 Park companies to join industry professionals, thought leaders and technology enthusiasts in exploring innovative technologies and solutions. During the networking session, Park companies engaged with Deloitte professionals, creating a dynamic environment for the exchange of ideas and exploration of potential collaboration. These interactions will nurture a vibrant ecosystem at Science Park.
Opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Patrick Tsang, Deloitte China CEO, who commended the event and highlighted Deloitte’s achievements over the past year since the establishment of the IADC. He emphasised Deloitte’s commitment to driving technological advancements by connecting and collaborating with the Science Park ecosystem as an integrated, multidisciplinary professional services firm, and to supporting innovation as a strategic enabler for businesses in Hong Kong and beyond. Mr. Tsang was followed by Mr. Albert Wong, CEO of HKSTP, with his opening remarks acknowledging the connection between Deloitte and HKSTP.
The Open Day featured a diverse array of speaking topics representing Deloitte service offerings and highlighting key areas of technological advancement.
To commence proceedings, Dean of the Deloitte AI Institute (Hong Kong), Dr. Leo Ma introduced our AI Institute solutions and developments, providing insights into leading-edge advances in AI. Additionally, Lenovo’s Hong Kong & Macau General Manager Ms. Serena Cheung shared how collaboration with Deloitte is driving technology solutions for a smarter Hong Kong. Their presentations emphasised the transformative power of AI and its far-reaching impact across various sectors.
Mr. Ken Jin, director of RA Cyber at Deloitte China, and Qi An Xin’s Chief Engineer Mr. Xiaojun Sun explored essential cyber defence strategies for rapidly growing businesses, addressing the need to safeguard digital assets in an increasingly interconnected world. Mr. Jin delivered a detailed presentation of Deloitte’s Cyber Intelligence Centre at IADC, highlighting the wide range of cyber and managed services we offer to help clients navigate the constantly shifting risk landscape.
Mr. Mohit Grover, Deloitte Hong Kong partner and Climate and Sustainability lead, and The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) Chief Technologist Dr. Tao Yu, discussed sustainability regulations as gateways to new business opportunities, paving the way for a greener future. Mr. Grover demonstrated Deloitte’s capability to support Park companies in aligning their practices with global ESG standards. By leveraging our expertise, Park companies can enhance transparency, mitigate risks and seize opportunities in the rapidly evolving ESG landscape.
Mr. Ernest Lee, member of the Listing Committee of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong and technical partner of Deloitte China, moderated a panel on the crucial role of financial analysis and audit in ensuring business success. The panel featured Mr. Krates Chan, Assurance partner at Deloitte China, who introduced our comprehensive offerings in audit and IPO services. He highlighted the importance of reliable financial analysis and accurate bookkeeping in ensuring the success and growth of businesses.
Additionally, Treadwell Therapeutics (Hong Kong) Vice President of Operations & Finance, Mr. Jantzen Kwan, shared their insights on working closely with our integrated audit teams; and Fano Labs Chief Scientist Dr. Albert Lam, shared their experience with Deloitte, including how we supported their fund raising and assist in presenting their solutions to create sell-with opportunities.
Ms. Rita Chan, Hong Kong Government & Public Sector Service leader at Deloitte China, shared Deloitte’s expertise in harnessing the potential of Gen-AI/LLM and Digital Twin technologies to pave the way for a smarter, more prosperous future. Joining Ms. Chan, Nvidia Enterprise Hong Kong General Manager Mr. Samuel Lo delved into the transformative potential of these leading-edge technologies and highlighted how Gen-AI/LLM can enhance decision-making, automate tasks and unlock new opportunities for innovation.
The panel on successful start-up investments and cross-border transactions, moderated by Mr. Kenneth Yue, director of the Deloitte Hong Kong Science Park Office, included two Deloitte China panellists, Mergers and Acquisitions Partner Ms. Alice Liu and Managing Director of VC&C-Turnaround & Restructuring Mr. Kelvin Ho, alongside Mr. Kenneth Lee, counsel at Deloitte Legal, SmartMore LogTech representative, and Business Development Senior Manager at the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Hong Kong Institute of Science & Innovation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr. Xu Jun.
They explored the key factors that contribute to successful start-up investments, discussing market analysis, due diligence and strategic partnerships. They also delved into the challenges and opportunities of investing in early-stage ventures, sharing valuable lessons learned from personal experience. Deloitte partners emphasised our ability to offer customised solutions that address these unique complexities and risks and highlighted our extensive network of domestic and international industry connections which can facilitate valuable partnerships and opportunities for participants.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Bong Chan, Deloitte China Southern Region TMT leader and lead partner of the Deloitte Hong Kong Science Park Office, who thanked HKSTP and the attendees and reiterated Deloitte’s commitment to drive innovation and technology in Hong Kong and support Park companies on their growth journey.
