Dr Norman Sze Nung Chi is the Vice Chair of Deloitte China.
He is a pioneer in the consulting industry in Mainland China. He began his career in 1985 when he joined Arthur Andersen in Hong Kong. He later moved to Shanghai as General Manager of Arthur Andersen's consulting business, one of the first firms of its kind in the country. He mainly helped multinationals to set up ventures in China and supported SOEs on the business transformation.
In 2002, Dr Sze joined KPMG Consulting, where he was involved in pioneering projects to advance internationalization and risk management standards at state-owned banks after China's ascension to the World Trade Organization. He was then named as one of the Leading Financial Services Consultants in China by Euromoney.
Two years later, he became head of Deloitte Consulting in China, a role he held for ten years. He expanded the consulting business from primarily serving multinational clients also to local state-owned and private clients. He also scaled up the capabilities in strategy, human capital and technology services.
In 2014, he was transferred to Beijing as Regional Managing Partner of Deloitte China, Northern Region. He mainly led the development of business in the region including generating services to local government, incubating growth of potential unicorn companies, expanding SOE related services and opening offices in Shenyang and Zhengzhou.
In his current roles as the Vice Chair of Deloitte China and Managing Partner of Deloitte China Government and Public Services, Dr Sze advises government on the business environment improvement and economic development policy, and continues to be a leading advocate for development of the consulting profession. In addition, he is leading the firm’s CFO program to support CFO’s career development.
Dr Sze has published many acclaimed articles and books on the transformation of Chinese state-owned enterprises and recently on the city development and digitalization.
Dr Sze holds a B. Soc. Sc from HKU, an MBA from Heriot-Watt University in the UK and a Doctorate in Business Administration from the ICD International Business School in France. In 2019, he received a postdoctoral fellowship from the University of Oxford for his research on the Belt and Road Initiative. He was awarded as Honorary University Fellowship from University of Hong Kong in 2021.
He is a member of Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, UK and a Fellow membership of CPA, Australia.
