What’s the best part of your job?
I enjoy working in a forward thinking team and working on high profile projects. I also feel like I’m constantly exposed to new ideas and skills, which is great for learning and professional development.
Soon after joining the team, I was brought in to help in the bidding process for the sale of the St James’s Gate Guinness storehouses. The site would be redeveloped to provide an exciting new space in Dublin and regenerate the area. This is a good example of the scale of the projects I’ve been involved in at Deloitte.
Tell us about your role.
As a team, we predominantly act for corporate and public sector landowners, helping them meet their real estate needs. That can be with meeting their housing targets or maximising financial return from their real estate portfolio.
I work with a variety of clients, from large infrastructure organisations to private developers. I’ll often be handling work for several clients at a time, so one week is always different from the next. Generally, I undertake financial appraisals and modelling, providing key analytical skills for the client. I also provide advisory services, such as helping them form joint venture partnerships to develop their property portfolios. I work in a number of different teams, both within Deloitte and ‘client-side’, which has been a good opportunity to meet new people.

Would you recommend career at Deloitte?
Yes I would. I think the fact that I re-joined the company, after leaving for eight months, speaks highly of the firm! I originally started on the graduate scheme in 2015. I worked here for two and a half years, and passed my real estate professional qualification, the APC. I left Deloitte in June 2018, for a different role at a smaller company. But I soon came back, as I missed working in such a great team and for such a fantastic company. It’s the people employed here that set Deloitte apart from our competitors.
What does your job involve, day-to-day?
Within my role as a surveyor/assistant manager, I generally provide development support and advice to directors and partners within the team. I am responsible for writing client reports and deliverables and undertaking financial and development appraisals and market research to support the reports and deliverables.
Depending on the project I’m working on, there are opportunities to go on development site visits and inspections, which means some travel around the UK. Normally, I’ll be in the office for most of the day, unless I have any client meetings to attend.
What’s your most memorable moment?
My greatest achievement was passing my APC professional qualification in 2017, meaning I became a Chartered Surveyor. This took two years of hard work and studying for my masters, while also doing my day job. Deloitte were so supportive through the process, and all my colleagues were happy to offer their time to help me.
What’s the best part of your job?
Within the development team, we are lucky enough to work with very large and well-known clients and gain exposure to significant projects. During my time here, I have been lucky enough to work with TfL, Homes England and Network Rail, on large projects that really impact on the client’s business.

What’s great about your job?
In Planning and Development, we have many industry experts leading our projects, who are great to learn from. It also means I have the opportunity to work on large and complex development schemes across the UK. The most exciting project I’ve worked on, so far, has been advising National Grid on their surplus portfolio.
What’s a typical day like for you?
It’s difficult to define a typical day in the development team, as all the projects I work on are different. The structure of my day will really depend on the current project.
I normally arrive at the office between 8 and 8.30am, and spend the first 30 minutes organising my day. The morning tends to be a mix of client and internal meetings to discuss projects. Unless I have a deadline or meeting to prepare for, I’ll use lunchtime to socialise with my peers.
Afternoons are usually a mix of project work and meetings. In terms of the type of tasks I’ll do, it might be helping to formulate a development strategy or with marketing development opportunities, analysing data or advising clients on development solutions. It’s a real mix.
In the evening, I tend to go the Deloitte Gym or to a social event. I also enjoy trying out new restaurants and bars in London.
