We worked with the NYC Department of Small Business Services to write "The New Normal: Adapting Your Small Business Playbook,"
a handbook to help NYC small businesses navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. Take a look.

The small business community has been particularly impacted by the public health crisis and economic recession brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. After months of everchanging restrictions and regulations, many small businesses across the United States continue to operate at limited capacity, while many others have closed their doors for good. Owners are struggling to meet their financial obligations to landlords, suppliers, and employees and protect the health and safety of employees and customers—all while continuing to meet customer needs. New York City’s small businesses have been hit especially hard. High rents, diminished revenues, and economic uncertainty have severely disrupted this once vibrant community, known for its rich diversity of minority and immigrant ownership.

In response, Deloitte worked with the New York City Department of Small Business Services on a pro bono basis to help create a handbook titled, "The New Normal: Adapting Your Small Business Playbook." The playbook consists of tools, technologies, and strategies to aid in the recovery of small businesses in NYC. It addresses three key areas: respond, recover, and thrive.

By identifying strategies that will allow them to survive—and perhaps even succeed—in an exceptionally challenging business environment, small businesses can continue to spur economic growth and innovation for the owners and communities that rely upon them.

This framework, offered by the interactive manual and accompanying worksheets, serves as guidance for entrepreneurs as they navigate reopening, protect their staff and customers, address financial concerns, and develop strategies to succeed in the new normal. By identifying strategies that will allow them to survive—and perhaps even succeed—in an exceptionally challenging business environment, small businesses can continue to spur economic growth and innovation for the owners and communities that rely upon them.
