The Engagement Controller Practice is essential to delivering quality client service. As an Engagement Controller, you work directly with the consulting engagement team to provide financial analysis and logistical guidance.
An Engagement Controller is responsible for applying our project management principles to help keep our work on track from the very beginning. You will be responsible for providing key financial services to all members of the project team. This also means managing project logistics far beyond scheduling meetings and maintaining spreadsheets. It's about budgeting and forecasting, maintaining compliance with our policies, financial analysis, and project billing and receivables. In short, everything that makes us a highly functioning team. It's an important job, and we take it seriously.
Engagement Controllers have a field of vision shared by few others—you'll participate in everything from the behind-the-scenes details to the big picture. In a sense, you operate as a project’s Chief Financial Officer. You'll work alongside our consultants from beginning to end, as they provide services designed to help companies in their efforts to improve. And along the way, you'll make an impact on projects, develop knowledge, skills, and gain a network that you can consult no matter where your career takes you.
What we look for
We are seeking candidates who have demonstrated exceptional performance in these and other related majors: Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Business Management.
- Minimum 3.2 cumulative undergraduate GPA and equal or stronger performance in your major(s).
- Experience, interest, and aptitude in finance and/or accounting
- Solid working knowledge of MS Office programs-Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
- Attention to detail and timeliness in delivering on commitments
- Skills in solving problems, making decisions, and resolving conflicts
- Willingness and ability to travel (required)

1-2 years - Develops broad project controller skills; improves technical skills with Microsoft and PC tools; supports financial analysis and project management needs; becomes familiar with Deloitte financial policies; contributes to the creation of deliverables.
2-4 years – Expands technical proficiency with tools and processes; develops conclusions from analysis; takes responsibility for creating and leading portions of deliverable, supports engagement pricing.
2-4 years – Performs profitability, business development, and other ad-hoc analysis and reviews, reviews and directs deliverables for junior resources; leads and evaluates analysis to draw conclusions and develops insightful recommendations and solutions; designs deliverable content.
3-6 years - Oversees the activities of the project controller staff including supervision, task management and quality reviews of deliverables; plans and manages moderate to complex engagements; performs account-level reporting and analysis.
4-6 years - Provides overall engagement management; integrates recommendations into a solution for the client team; structures, reviews and validates analysis and recommendations; serves as a mentor to junior resources and management staff.
Serves as a trusted advisor to senior Deloitte leadership; identifies key opportunities for our practice to expand; directs engagement management
