Cloud 2021: What’s coming, why, and how we get there
Part of the For Cloud Professionals podcast series
Cloud adoption has wildly accelerated in 2020, and that trend will continue into 2021. However, to fuel continued acceleration, companies will need to bolster Ops, focus on using cloud strategically, and use cloud to get to market faster. Edge computing will also be a key 2021 theme.
Cloud 2021: Acceleration, Ops, and a focus on strategy
Cloud adoption has clearly accelerated in 2020, driven in large part by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as the pandemic eases, cloud adoption won’t stall; it will continue to accelerate. In this episode, Deloitte’s David Linthicum, Mike Kavis, and Ranjit Bawa sit down to discuss Cloud 2021. Their take is that companies will be looking to cloud to supercharge their business, but those efforts must be driven by emphasizing Ops, focusing on the strategic aspect and business case for cloud adoption, and getting to market faster with cloud. Effectively using data, user and customer experience, and edge computing will also be key themes for 2021. Finally, they also answer perhaps the biggest question for 2021: Will the cultural changes we've seen in 2020 stick around?
Moving forward into next year we're looking for things such as intercloud orchestration, the ability to facilitate Ops, the ability to kind of take DevSecOps to the next level, and integrating all these various Ops tools within the DevOps tool chain.
In a fast-moving cloud environment, companies must be ready to change course quickly. Two keys to success are flexibility and democratized information to gain critical insights.
Put Cloud in context with the future of business and technology

David, ranked as the #1 cloud influencer in a recent Apollo Research report, has published 13 books on computing, written over 5,000 published articles and performed over 500 conference presentations, making his specialization in the power of cloud simply undeniable.
As a pioneer in cloud computing, Mike Kavis leads Architecting the Cloud, which offers insights from the POV of those who’ve had hands-on experience with cloud technology. Mike’s personal cloud journey includes leading the team that built the world's first high-speed transaction network in Amazon's public cloud—a project that ultimately won the 2010 AWS Global Startup Challenge.
