John Hynes

John specializes in the federal tax treatment of partnerships, with an emphasis on tax considerations arising in a wide variety of economic arrangements among partners and between partners and partnerships. He regularly advises investment managers, investors, joint ventures, buyers, and sellers (both strategic and financial) on aspects of their transactions, from diligence and structuring to compliance and controversy. John previously practiced tax at a New York law firm. Prior to that, he was an attorney at a law firm in Washington, DC, and was a staff member in the US Senate and the US House of Representatives.

John has published in The Tax Lawyer, Tax Management International Journal, and Practising Law Institute handbooks.

John earned a BA from Earlham College, an MA from Emory University, and a JD from Georgetown University Law Center.
