Matt Thomson

Matt is an Audit & Assurance partner at Deloitte & Touche LLP focused on the insurance sector. Matt has served many prominent clients across all segments of the insurance industry during his career. He has more than 15 years of experience, with a focus on serving life, health, and property and casualty insurance companies as well as insurance brokers. He has in-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP, NAIC statutory accounting principles, and SEC rules and regulations. Matt also maintains an active IFRS certification. From an advisory role, Matt has led numerous projects for insurers, including internal controls SOX readiness, due diligence for prospective acquisitions, and public securities offerings. In addition, he has assisted insurance clients in responding to SEC comment letters, as well as provided insight and advice to insurance clients in responding to state regulators during their regulatory examinations.

Matt places a high priority on professional relationships – focusing on developing and maintaining strong professional relationships with executive management and audit committee members. He maintains close contact with key stakeholders and is known for his open and forthright communication style, his technical acumen, and willingness to involve himself in complex and challenging issues our clients face to provide a technical advice.
