Michael specializes in issues involving the taxation of debt instruments and derivatives, with emphasis on debt restructurings, original issue discount (OID) rules, and interest disallowance provisions. He is a member of the Deloitte Tax Cryptocurrency working group.
Michael is a frequent instructor at Deloitte and externally sponsored events on the taxation of financial instruments, such as the DC Bar. He is also an adjunct professor of taxation of financial instruments at The George Washington University.
Michael holds a BS in mathematics and an MBA in finance from Purdue University, a JD from University of Miami School of Law, and an LLM in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center.
