Meet the 2020 Technology Fast 50 program winners

Canada’s fastest growing technology companies are taking innovation and leadership to new heights.

Meet the latest winners of the Technology Fast 50 program, falling within the categories of Fast 50, Enterprise Fast 15, and Companies-to-Watch.Recognizing the world-class achievements of Canadian technology companies, the Technology Fast 50 program highlights their commitment to innovation, leadership, and rapid revenue growth between 2016 and 2019. This year, the average three-year growth of the Fast 50 winners is 2,144%.

At the top of the Fast 50 category list this year is Intellijoint Surgical Inc., a med-tech company creating unique technology to support advanced surgical navigation. With three-year growth of 19,311%, the Kitchener-based company is improving patients’ lives by providing every surgeon with effective, easy-to-use technology.

Geographically, the majority of this year’s Fast 50 winners are based in Ontario (29), followed by Quebec (10), British Columbia (6), with the balance from the Atlantic Region (3), and the Prairie Region (2).

Enterprise Fast 15 ranking keeps the spotlight on Canadian tech giants

Introduced as a new category in 2019, the Enterprise Fast 15 ranking recognizes the fastest-growing enterprise-level technology, media, and telecommunications companies with revenue growth over their last four years of operation. The category is open to companies that recorded a minimum revenue of $10 million in 2016 and a minimum revenue of $25 million in 2019. The 2020 winners are: 360Insights, AcuityAds, Aucerna, Canada Drives, District M, Docebo, Doxim Inc., Eddyfi Technologies, Financeit, Geotab, Helcim, Kinova, Paladin Technologies, Sangoma Technologies, SendtoNews.  

Annual survey highlights from Fast 50 CEOs 

Deloitte’s annual survey of Technology Fast 50 CEOs found the COVID-19 pandemic was the biggest challenge facing Canadian businesses in 2020; 70% of respondents said they have successfully applied for some form of federal or provincial COVID-19 related support programs.

Other findings include:

  • Tech companies agreed the various levels of government in Canada are doing enough to help companies in the sector (69%), up from 50% in 2019
  • More than 41% of Fast50 job applicants are women, up from 16% last year
  • 86% of respondents believe an inclusive workplace is one of the top three strategic drivers of a company’s success, up from 80% in 2019.
