About the event
The Society of Actuaries (SOA) is hosting the virtual Asia-Pacific Annual Symposium between 6-7 June 2022. The theme of this year is "New Frontier of Insurance and Actuaries". The symposium provides a learning and networking platform for members and non-members in the Asia-Pacific region to share their experiences in the actuarial profession, the finance and insurance industries, as well as other fields related to actuaries. Seasoned speakers and experts will also share their professional insight about the future of the industry.

As guest speakers, Deloitte China Insurance directors Dhiran Dookhi and Ken Liang will host two sessions at the SOA Asia-Pacific Annual Symposium and share their insights on embedding climate risk and climate disclosures, as well as how modernisation and streamlining the actuarial process is the direction of creating novel ecosystem. Session 3B: Embedding Climate Risk and Climate Disclosures
Date: 6 June 2022 (Monday)

Over recent years, climate change has rapidly moved up the agenda to become a top concern for insurers. This session will provide:
- An update on the current climate regulatory requirements from key regulators around the globe,
- Practical experiences and insights on how insurers can embed, manage and mitigate climate risk including some of the difficulties to be aware of, benefits of being a first-mover and the risks of being a late-mover; and
- High-level benchmarking of leading global insurers Task-Force for Climate-related Financial Disclosures ("TCFD") to highlight what current best practice looks like in the areas of Governance, Strategy, Risk Management (including climate scenarios and modelling), Metrics and Targets.
Session 6C: Embrace the Novation of Ecosystem of Actuarial Industry

The world has changed so much, after waves of technology innovation, after the modernization of regulatory regime, after the unexpected outbreak of COVID, after several huge transactions in Asia-Pacific region, after the increasing geopolitical tensions. The equilibrium of actuarial resource and work breaks. The actuarial operating process must have a novation, in which actuarial resource can be pooled more rapidly, new process can be implemented in more agile way, handcrafting work can be largely reduced, actuarial professionals can spend their time more on the area of their interests.
In this session, Ken will share insights on pain points in the actuarial industry, and how modernisation and streamlining the actuarial process is the direction of creating novel ecosystem.
Session 12 – Panel Discussion: IFRS 17 Product Development & Future

As 2023 draws near, most insurers are on the final stretch to have their IFRS17 implementation completed. In this panel discussion, Deloitte partners Louis Lee and Ka Hei Choi, and Damian Borzucki and Hanno Reich from Munich Re, will discuss and share insights on the influence from IFRS17 on product development and the future of transformation with our industry. They will discuss key topics such as:
- How IFRS17 can provide a better mechanism to compare insurers both locally and internationally.
- Whether IFRS17 is allowing the "service" which the insurance industry provides comparable to services provided from other industries.
- How IFRS17 will influence business decision of our industry.
