Making an Immigration Impact

Working in the United States as a immigrant came with its own set of challenges for me. I have faced visa extension deadlines, lawyers to work with, stress related to work travel, and the anxiety of worrying about re-entry to the US. Deloitte’s support for me has surprised me in the best way.

Immigration laws are everchanging and all the legal language can be confusing to understand, and even more difficult to follow. Not long after I joined Deloitte, I was due to file an extension on my working visa. This can be a lengthy and expensive process, which if done incorrectly meant I would have to go back to India. But Deloitte assisted by handling the filing for me and my wife. The biggest relief was this process was completed without additional cost or headache for me and my family.

That feeling of belonging extends into so much of my work as a Deloitte professional. I was pleasantly surprised by the humility of my new colleagues when I joined the team. Despite my previous consulting experience, navigating in a large organization was new to me. In my first year of onboarding, I had the opportunity of collaborating and working closely with the team to get up to speed, learn and represent at client site. I had an opportunity to lead the meetings, and work with clients directly which boosted my confidence to deliver good results. I really feel blessed to work with great colleagues here.

The support I feel at Deloitte is unlike anything I’ve had at work before. I went from feeling stressed about my immigration status, worrying about travel and feeling lost at previous employers, to now just getting to focus on work and my family. Having the support and resources like I have experienced at at Deloitte gives me that confidence to focus on my work and well-being. I am so appreciative of working for a place where I not only feel that I have opportunities for growth, but I also feel that it cares for me and my well-being where it matters most.
