Deloitte and the United States Tennis Association
Proud sponsor of the US Open and possibility served
Smashing barriers may not be easy, but with hard work, perseverance, and skill, some players make it look that way. Since 2017, Deloitte has been the Official Professional Services Sponsor of the US Open Tennis Championships. As the presenting sponsor of both the US Open Wheelchair Competition and the USTA Foundation National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) Essay Contest, we’re proud to work with the USTA and NJTL as they strive to connect new players to the game and make it accessible to athletes of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.
Dana Mathewson didn’t grow up dreaming of being an elite tennis player. After contracting transverse myelitis, an inflammation of the spinal cord, at the age of 10, she became a partial paraplegic, resulting in limited function from the waist down. Dana’s mother was steadfast in her resolve to ensure Dana continued to be active, like any other child her age. Luckily, she was able to access many adaptive sports programs, and when Dana first hit the tennis court, she loved it immediately.
Today, Dana travels around the world to compete on the biggest tennis stages while training full-time at the USTA National Campus. As a professional tennis player, she’s passionate and committed to perfecting her game—working day in and day out; completing drills, strength training, and conditioning exercises; and even preparing her mental game. Dana Mathewson isn’t just an elite wheelchair tennis player; she’s an elite athlete.
Dana, along with Jason Harnett, USTA head coach for wheelchair tennis, provide insight into the game and offer tips on how to improve play. Learn more by clicking the tiles below:
As a trusted advisor to the USTA, we were brought in to help them reimagine its digital presence to increase connectivity and make them more strategic and engaging across all platforms. Even in the early stages, these efforts have helped attract youth, connect players, and build a new generation of fans. The National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) network is a nationwide network of community tennis organizations seeking to develop the character of young people through tennis and education. NJTL is supported by the USTA Foundation, the national charitable organization of the USTA. Since 2017, Deloitte has served as the presenting sponsor of the annual NJTL Essay Contest, which encourages students to write research-driven, analytical essays in response to a specific prompt.
Thousands of entries are received every year, and from those, 10 national winners are chosen. The winners meet in New York City for an immersive, in-person experience hosted by the USTA and Deloitte.
