Dream jobs really do come true
Kat Harwood’s dream job has actually been a series of them. That’s her favorite aspect of working for Deloitte. She’s moved across practice areas and clients and various roles, essentially diving into a “complete change of everything” without ever leaving Deloitte.
I’ve always been passionate about sports. I firmly believe that sports is one of the great ways to unify people across differences. But it felt like a pipe dream to work in the sports industry and do the consultative work that I love.

Making varsity
A series of interesting twists and turns brings Kat to her current Deloitte role, working with the U.S. Olympic Committee. Deloitte is the official professional services sponsor of the USOC, and that relationship has brought Kat the opportunity of a lifetime—creating value for a client that’s iconic in the world of sports. In addition to her work with the USOC, Kat advises teams and leagues on a variety of topics including fan experience, digital transformation, and business operations. After all, successful sports organizations are high functioning not only in competitions, but also in their operations. Kat loves helping make that happen.
Running the numbers
The work she’s doing now allows Kat to leverage her deep experience in finance and operations and apply it to the sports industry. Kat began in audit at Deloitte & Touche LLP immediately after completing her undergraduate degree. Soon, though, she found a niche in mergers and acquisitions work within Deloitte Consulting LLP’s Strategy & Operations competency. She loved guiding clients through non-routine moments in their life cycles. It called on both her economics background and her innate interpersonal skills, in a high-stakes situation. Much like a big game, it was an intensity by which she thrived.
Opportunity seeker
Kat hasn’t been shy about taking advantage of every opportunity, including the chance to take time off for business school. She went in with the intention of increasing her sports business acumen, among other things. Interestingly though, that was long before she knew that combining sports and her consulting work was a possibility. However it came to be—and she admits it’s as much serendipity as design—Kat’s career has taken her to places she only dreamed. And now she’s living out her personal credo daily: Do inspiring work. Work with inspiring people. Be inspiring.
