What’s in store for retail banking

In this episode of our banking podcast, we discuss how regulatory and related macro policy trends are impacting the retail banking industry. Kristin is joined by Paul Sanford, an industry veteran of the CFPB, OCC and FDIC; and Tom Nicolosi, the consumer and retail banking leader for Deloitte's risk and financial advisory practice.

I think it's always a good idea if you're going to get into something new, you ought to be right up front with the regulators and make sure that you've laid it out for them, and you can demonstrate that you clearly understand what it is that you're doing and that they have no reservations about it.

The relationship between the supervisor and the bank is based on trust, and once that trust is broken, it's pretty impossible to get it back. So, if you're going to get into a new area, this is a thing that can be fraught with problems. Best thing to do is start that dialogue with the regulator.
