Helping the WNBA win beyond the court
The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and its players are more than the game of basketball—whether its players helping drive change or the league leaning into insights that can help elevate the business behind the game. As a trusted advisor, Deloitte helps guide the WNBA in its efforts to drive business transformation and empower the league, the players, and the fans.
Our impact: The winning playbook
Amid record-breaking game attendance and viewership, the WNBA and the players are showcasing amazing on-court play. Off court, the WNBA turns to Deloitte as a trusted advisor, to help elevate its business and strengthen off-court performance. See how, with the support of Deloitte’s industry-leading services, the WNBA has reimagined its playbook.
Reimagining the WNBA App
The WNBA engaged Deloitte to help enhance its digital fan engagement strategy and transform its mobile app. This work has led to a next-generation digital experience tailored to fans’ interests that can drive real, measurable impact for the league. During the app’s first year, the WNBA saw a 390% increase year over year in app downloads, a 257% increase in content consumption across digital channels, and more. Dive into the journey of how the WNBA App built by Deloitte helps drive fan loyalty and generates revenue for the league.
Scoring with business intelligence
Deloitte has been instrumental in harnessing data-driven insights to help the WNBA understand and connect with its fan base more effectively. Our work involved defining four key fan segments for the league and identifying the strategic opportunity to connect with each to potentially invest in and grow their engagement around the game. These efforts have not only helped the WNBA quantify its current 11 million enthusiasts but also identified more than 30 million potential fans.
Building a winning vision
When Deloitte became a trusted advisor to the league in 2020, we assisted the WNBA in defining its vision: one of being an innovative global leader in women's sports, of supporting its varied stakeholders and their interests, inspiring the next generation, and being a changemaker. Deloitte helped the WNBA develop a multi-faceted strategy, including a players-first approach focused on their overall health and post-career preparedness, efficient operational strategies for owners to elevate the league's profile, and innovative marketing approaches to enhance fan engagement.
Gametime at its best
With WNBA games being broadcast across different local, regional, national, and streaming platforms, the production quality and graphic appearance varied greatly from broadcast to broadcast. Deloitte brought our experience across visual production, production technology, media rights, and distribution to help the WNBA. Through stakeholder interviews, extensive analysis, and cross-industry Deloitte experience, we developed a production road map to help the WNBA as it looked to elevate production quality, generate consistency across markets, and improve the viewing experience for all types of fans.

Meet Kahleah Copper: Scorer. Coach. Inspiration.
At every stage of her basketball career, Kahleah Copper has aimed to make a lasting impact. During her college career, Kahleah was a standout on the court. After four seasons, she ranked third on the team’s all-time scoring list. In 2016, she was drafted and went to work in the WNBA. Since then, she’s become a two-time All-Star and the 2021 Finals MVP. Kahleah is also working to make a lasting impact outside the league as she tries to inspire young women not only with her hard-nosed playing style, but also as a mentor. Whether it’s coaching or providing access to free basketball camps in her hometown, Kahleah hopes to drive change for the next generation so they can make a lasting difference themselves.
