Ukraine Refugee Pulse report

February 2023

We are putting the voice of the Ukrainian refugee community at the centre of the discussion to help inform the response to this crisis by Polish national and local government, international organizations, NGOs, and businesses.

Information about the survey

We present the results of a survey conducted between October 24th and December 31st, 2022, among 1,206 Ukrainian refugees living in Poland. The aim of this survey was to find out the current situation of these people, their most important needs, and barriers they must face daily. We collected information on the demographic profile and situation of the individuals, the degree to which their basic needs are met, their financial and housing situation, access to services, health care, education, childcare, and the main barriers limiting this access. The Ukraine Refugee Pulse survey was conducted in collaboration between Deloitte, Social Progress Imperative and Play Verto. The survey was conducted in Ukrainian.

Results

The responses collected allow us to identify the key problems that Ukrainian refugees residing in Poland face on a daily basis:

  1. limited access to childcare and education for children - a significant barrier to accessing the labour market for those with children in their care
  2. poor access to health care, in particular psychological care
  3. precarious housing situation and lack of sufficient financial resources to function independently
  4. the need to care for accompanying persons - children, persons with disabilities and elderly relatives
  5. language and cost-related barriers limiting access to services

Conclusions

By learning about the needs of the people who took part in the survey, we are able to offer support to at least some of them. In collaboration with the social enterprise MyMind Centre for Mental Wellbeing, we have offered psychological support provided by therapists experienced in working with the Ukrainian community.

The results of our survey also indicate the areas that should receive special attention from public authorities, NGOs, business, and civil society - where they can offer their help and where the need for action is the greatest.
