Military Spouse Appreciation Day 2024
Celebrating Deloitte military spouses and significant others
May 3, 2024
Happy Military Spouse Appreciation Day!
Each year, military spouses and significant others in the United States are celebrated on May 10th. We celebrate our Deloitte military spouses and significant others for their dedication to their jobs, their family, their soldiers, and our country. If you know a military spouse or significant other, share some gratitude and celebrate them today.

How has being a military spouse positively impacted your career?
Embracing the role of Army Wife has broadened my horizons, nurturing within me a deep cultural awareness. I have had to learn to adapt to change while maintaining all the demands of both my professional and family life. My leadership capabilities have been enhanced with each deployment phase.
Melissa Heffley, project delivery senior analyst, Deloitte Consulting LLP
How has being a military spouse positively impacted your career?
Being a military spouse provided me the ability to manage all the household priorities while my spouse was away and take care of the day-to-day at home. Being able to do this provided me with the skills to handle multiple projects, initiatives, and responsibilities. Moving around from one place to the next in the military can prepare you for moving from one project to the next with ease.
Katish Sussman, analyst, Deloitte Consulting LLP
How has being a military spouse positively impacted your career?
Being a military spouse has taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of effective communication. All of these things have been transferrable and extremely valuable across the teams, projects, and various parts of my career. Since joining Deloitte, I have been truly grateful for the continued opportunities for growth, and areas where I can engage, especially as it relates to the Veteran, Military, Spouse & Allies community.

How has being a military spouse positively impacted your career?
As a professional who supports the US military as my primary client, it’s both rewarding and impactful to be able to provide firsthand experience and recommendations for how we develop solutions. It’s extremely rewarding and energizing knowing my career is impacting the future of the US military, and my future experiences as a military spouse.
Martha Hepler, senior consultant, Risk & Financial Advisory, Deloitte & Touche LLP

I absolutely believe it has made it far more joyous. Having the opportunity to work with those I share the veteran and military spouse background with in the workplace fosters a familiar connection with peers.

How has being a military spouse positively impacted your career?
Embracing the life of a military spouse has significantly shaped and enriched my professional journey. This unique path has enabled me to broaden my network, connecting with individuals I might not have met otherwise and sparking opportunities, such as developing a program (Military Spouse Initiative) that empowers others to balance fulfilling careers with commitments to their military servicemembers. In my nine years at Deloitte, I've worked in five different office locations, served in three separate organizations, and earned three promotions.

Our Military Spouse Initiative (MSI) is one of the reasons I was interested in Deloitte. As an active-duty military spouse, I was looking for a place I could grow my career. I found my dream role working in Growth & Development (G&D) as a part of the Deloitte Leadership and Human Potential's internal facilitation team. My colleagues support me through life's celebrations and hard times. I am forever grateful!
