The art of bringing business to the business
Kimberly Spears works on a client accelerators team, which, for now, is the ideal blend of her former Deloitte positions in client service (external) and talent (internal). She’s not settling though, knowing there’s plenty more to conquer in an organization with ample opportunities.

Currently Kimberly leads one of the organization’s important market development investments—the Next Generation CMO Academy. The academy is an exclusive program for up-and-coming chief marketing officers across all industries. It’s held yearly at Deloitte University and provides interactive sessions that give participants a chance to step away from their daily responsibilities and focus on leadership development and growth.
It’s not just good for CMOs and rising marketing executives, giving them insights and tools to lead their businesses through rapid transformation. It’s good for Deloitte’s relationships, and for demonstrating value. At times, it’s a high-adrenaline role for Kimberly as she manages the nomination process, plans the event itself, and strategizes the follow-up with attendees. But she enjoys every stage of the yearly cycle, partly because it employs so many different aspects of her previous experience.
Seen behind the scene
Kimberly is familiar with the pressures that her consulting and advisory partners are under. They’re juggling intense existing projects while working to expand relationships too. She started her career in client service at Deloitte, so she’s in a unique position to support their work. And she’s recognized for the relevance and intuition she brings to the table as she helps strengthen relationship between account teams and their clients through the Academy. It’s true, there is no real substitute for walking a mile in someone’s shoes ... or spending a few years doing their job.
Navigating change of her own
With a variety of Deloitte roles now firmly on her resume, Kimberly has demonstrated that the opportunity to continue growing can be almost never ending. She’s ambitious. And she’s the first to point out, for her personally, that being a woman of color motivates a certain amount of her determination to advance. The overall stats about women in corporate leadership roles are never far from her mind, she says. Her passion and background in advancing Deloitte’s inclusive culture provides Kimberly the opportunity to make a difference beyond Deloitte by approaching the Academy with inclusion in mind. And, her innate openness to new things that come her way give her a sense that she’s just starting to see what’s possible – for the CMO Program and for her career.
