The students came together from all over the country. They didn’t stick with their office groups; they networked and made other friends.

Summer scholars are participants in Deloitte Consulting’s undergraduate client service internship program. At this year’s summer scholar conference, over 480 future consultants representing 150 universities from across the United States enjoyed three days of networking and professional development activities under the theme “Greater Together,” highlighting the importance of teamwork to fuel creativity and collective problem-solving. The annual conference was held from July 17-19 at Deloitte University in Westlake, Texas. Conferences were held for interns in Audit & Assurance, Risk and Financial Advisory, and Tax throughout the month of July as well.
Working together, we become more powerful
Conference attendees immersed themselves in workshops, classroom simulations, team building exercises, and had a chance to experience a lighter note of fun and relaxation with a game night celebration. Summer scholars mastered skills such as effective collaboration, communication and problem-solving techniques, and had the opportunity to network with their peers as well as a wide range of professionals and Deloitte leaders.
Standout moments
Notable topics covered at this year’s conference ranged from how to collaborate with different groups while simultaneously managing competing priorities, the importance of building your professional network, and Deloitte’s commitment to giving back to the community.
The conference featured a community service night, where the summer scholars assembled and packaged nearly 100 gift baskets for children’s and VA hospitals across the country.
Participants heard from professionals across the organization including, a keynote address from Amy Feirn, US Consulting Portfolio Leader and principal of Deloitte Consulting LLP, as well as a closing speech from gold medal-winning U.S. Paralympian and Purple Heart recipient Rico Roman.
