My Deloitte story: Bhanu Rajaram

Meet Bhanu Rajaram, principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP


Before I even started, there was an advisory board created for me made up of other senior leaders and people I’m connected to based on experience and go-to-market strategy. It’s just one example of how Deloitte helps position you to succeed, right from the start.

Why did you decide to join Deloitte?
I had reached a point at my previous job where there were no more growth opportunities, but I still had career aspirations to fulfill. Deloitte’s strong reputation in the market and its focus on M&A consulting aligned well with my experience and goals. Also, the collaborative approach I experienced during the interview process made a significant impression on me. Lastly, Deloitte’s industry focus was appealing and differentiated it from other organizations I considered.

Now that you’re here, what part of your day-to-day work do you most look forward to?
I enjoy connecting with people at all different levels within the organization. Understanding their goals and learning about Deloitte’s capabilities helps me become a better consultant. Additionally, I strive to be an unofficial mentor to others, providing guidance and support.

What stands out to you about Deloitte’s culture?
There are several aspects of Deloitte’s culture that have made an impression on me:

• Collaborative spirit: Teamwork and collaboration is a hallmark of the Deloitte culture. There is an openness to bringing in new people and leveraging their experience and perspective.
• Support for success: I have clear goals and the resources I need to achieve them. Before I even started, there was an advisory board created for me made up of other senior leaders and people I’m connected to based on experience and go-to-market strategy. It’s just one example of how Deloitte helps position you to succeed, right from the start.
• Hungry but humble: Another aspect that sets Deloitte apart is the drive of its professionals. The people I work with are committed to helping solve complex problems and delivering results for their clients. That said, it’s worth noting that being nice is not seen as a negative at Deloitte. There is a balance between being humble and hungry.

How has Deloitte’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) factored into your experience?
Deloitte’s deliberate focus on DEI has been great to see. It creates an extremely productive and inclusive environment. The people around the table represent many different backgrounds and experiences and reflect the world we live in.

What keeps you busy outside of your work?
I maintain a healthy lifestyle by running—and I recently started using a stationary bike. I’m also part of a book club that I enjoy very much. I try to focus on activities that broaden my horizons and bring balance to my life.

In terms of career growth and impact, how do you envision your future at Deloitte?
Right now, delivering is my top priority—and I’m focused on winning more engagements and contributing to the growth of the practice. I’m also building a followership by working across different teams and projects.

As time goes on, I hope to take on internal leadership roles including providing career counseling and helping my teammates with goal setting. Mentorship is very important to me and I look forward to helping others thrive in Deloitte’s supportive environment.
