Deloitte’s US Delivery Center: Local teams delivering service excellence
A look at the history and culture of the USDC
September 20, 2018
Established in 2014, Deloitte's US Delivery Center (USDC) was designed to help clients achieve business value and a higher level of service in operational efficiency. Fast forward four years, the USDC has grown from one location to three locations across the country, employing more than 1,000 business, human resources, and technology professionals.
“The inspiration for our model was the need of our clients to have an onshore based delivery center where we could deliver work for our clients at the highest quality in a delivery center,” shared Bert Naquin, managing director, Deloitte Consulting LLP. “But even in those early days, there was a focus on ensuring that we developed and created the right culture.”
A centralized model
The centers are built around a model of collaboration, in an environment where professionals can support clients in a centralized office setting, typically with minimal travel. This service model empowers both clients and Deloitte professionals. Teams can work from the office locations or quickly mobilize to meet with clients onsite or at nearby locations, minimizing the need for extended travel.
Clients can tap into the USDC through facilities in Orlando, FL, Gilbert, AZ, and Mechanicsburg, PA. Each location delivers service excellence in consulting and cyber risk services. Because of these specialized service offerings, the USDC locations have multiple teams equipped with a wide variety of experience, skill level, and specialization.
“Our professionals can focus more on delivering the projects and the solutions to the clients without worrying about being on the road all the time,” noted Uday Katira, managing director, Deloitte Consulting LLP. “But if need be, they can also be at the client site as frequently as needed.”
A people-centric culture
The open office environment fosters a culture of teamwork and collaboration which helps the team to deliver exceptional results. It also provides greater flexibility for professionals, where daily commute and personal matters are concerned. One team member noted how easy it was for her to take her two boys to sporting activities after school.
“We moved from an environment that was very cubicle-oriented to a very open space,” shared Deb Ferreira, managing director, Deloitte Consulting LLP. “The teamwork and comradery, the collaboration, being able to walk outside your office and be with a group of people every day who know who you are and know what you're capable of, is just so reassuring.”
