Enhancing your career without changing jobs

With a new year in front of us, many people are planning out their goals and resolutions.  A popular goal for many is to find a new job.  But what if you like your company?  What if you aren’t ready to make a job change?  There are still ways that you can enhance your career and help you continue to feel fulfilled professionally.
 

1. Invest in your learning and development.

Many organizations offer virtual and in-person trainings to help you develop a skill or skill set.  In addition, you may consider other online resources that specialize in virtual learning that have a variety of offerings in their skills library.
 

2. Share your career goals with your manager.

Be sure to share your short-term and long-term career goals with your manager.  They can be a valuable resource in providing feedback and connecting you to opportunities that may help you in reaching your goals. 

3. Work on a special project with another team that you have an interest in.

Perhaps you are ready for a new challenge.  Consider looking at career opportunities internally.  This can be a common thing overlooked by professionals when considering a new job.  Network with other teams within your organization to identify possible future interests and leverage your manager and their relationships.  If they are aware of your career goals, they can be a great asset in identifying projects and or opportunities for you to explore in other areas.

4.      Volunteer.

Find a cause that you’re passionate about and get involved.

While 2019 may not be the year for you to find a new job, challenge yourself. Start the new year off right and implement some of these changes to help enhance your career today!
