Tips on considering multiple job offers

Recruiting tips

Consider these suggestions as you choose an employer.

You’ve done it!

Congratulations on securing not one, but several job offers from various employers. Now, the big question is: where will you start your career?

Lead Campus Recruiting Specialist Amanda Martin, Deloitte Services LP, has some wisdom to pass along to help you.

Carefully review the details of each offer letter. It’s good to compare items like benefits and compensation from one organization to the next to see what will fit your needs. (Hint: Deloitte benefits are really comprehensive – take a peek if you want more information on them).

Compare each offer. Spend some time thinking about what’s important to you in an employer as you start your career. Is it the people and culture? Company values such as commitment to the community? Compensation? With a clear understanding of your “must haves” and “nice to haves”, you can evaluate offers. Whether you create a pro / con list, talk to your roommate, review with your parents - use whatever approach that works best for you.

Verbally commit to the recruiter that you’ve selected their organization. Then, also verbally notify the recruiters from the other organizations so that they may continue the recruiting process for that specific job. Tell them how much you appreciated being considered for the role. Whatever you do, don’t burn bridges by failing to get back to recruiters because you never know if your paths may cross again.

Politely decline an office visit by another company. If you’ve been invited to an office visit or “sell” event by an organization but have already committed to another organization, let the host of the office event know you will not be attending out of courtesy. Office visits often involve travel costs that cannot be recouped if a candidate backs out of the event at the last minute.

Get ready to start your career! Once you’ve signed on the dotted line, prepare yourself for your new job. Take some time to learn more about your role or Deloitte overall so that you can hit the ground running.
