Leveraging Observability to automate your cloud ecosystem
Part of the On Cloud Podcast series
Observability is about more than analyzing systems performance to improve it. The true power of Observability is that it's a holistic process that can help automate much of DevOps, CloudOps, and security.
Observability isn’t a bolt-on; it’s an integral part of the cloud ecosystem
Observability is a huge help to organizations in solving systems performance issues, but some still see it as a bolt-on. In this episode, David Linthicum talks with Dynatrace’s Michael Allen and Deloitte’s Jay McDonald about why that isn’t so. The trio also discusses why companies should view Observability as a holistic process that can be built as code into every facet of their cloud ecosystem—from infrastructure, to apps, to security, to governance, to compliance, and more.
Observability really takes our insights to the next level…to get down to a single source of truth for what actually is going on holistically...and how to act upon it.
Michael Allen is Dynatrace’s vice president of worldwide partner business. Over the last 21 years, he has successfully tackled the challenges of building and operating a pan-European, product line-focused sales organization at Dynatrace.
Jay McDonald is a managing director with Deloitte Consulting LLP, leading Deloitte’s Global Cloud DevOps practice focusing on FSI (Financial Services Industry) and emerging technology services. Jay has 22 years of leadership in IT and business operations and has led teams through scaled growth.
Observability: Taking monitoring to the next level
Cloud complexity makes traditional monitoring techniques almost obsolete. That's where Observability comes in by going beyond monitoring to provide insight into what's happening, why, and how to improve operations.
Utilize observability for more effective DevOps
Cloud applications are complex, and old monitoring methods don't catch all potential design flaws. Observability, with its focus on collaboration and shared responsibility, can look for "unknown unknowns" and catch problems, and solve them, before they impact the user.
