A transportation company operated too many databases, leading to data redundancy and a lack of integration. Their future hinged on predictive analytics insights.
A legacy transportation company moved millions of people and goods each year—but their data storage was years behind. This organization’s tech challenges were real: they depended on old on-premises systems that were difficult and expensive to maintain, unwieldy to change and that struggled to meet business demands. The company had grown organically and operated too many databases, leading to data redundancy and a lack of integration.
Without analytics tools in place, they could only look backwards, which told them very little about what to expect today or tomorrow. They knew they needed to change to survive, and the organization’s future hinged on modernized, rapidly accessible data and predictive analytics insights. This organization needed to modernize its technology, so they called Deloitte to help.
“Without analytics tools in place, they could only look backwards, which told them very little about what to expect today or tomorrow.”
Working with Deloitte, the organization migrated their legacy data stores onto a serverless, cloud-native Amazon Web Service (AWS) platform, and implemented more than a dozen different technologies, including Lambda and Mulesoft. The team built NoSQL data stores which could handle the vast amounts of unstructured data. They also built out data analysis, modeling, and visualization tools for near-real time analytical and operational reporting.
Because cloud-native technologies were such a major organizational shift, the team created mini prototypes to give the company the confidence that such a bold, sweeping change would work. And it did: the organization now benefits from a lean, serverless solution that can scale and respond quickly to support its business initiatives. The solutions have led to the ability to better and more quickly serve customers and employees. The cloud transformation not only reduced costs, it changed their view of what’s possible for the business.
