Having seen numerous applications of AI and machine learning, the ones that create a social or human impact are the most meaningful to Jay Chavda.
Deloitte AI Institute is proud to introduce a series profiling AI warriors who are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the search for new and innovative uses of AI.
Can you share the most interesting part of your career journey?
Technology and data are central to my professional career. The journey kicked off when I started working as a technology consultant in India. Early on in my career, I got a glimpse of the power of data when I saw the insights from data analysis drive some of the critical decisions for my client’s product strategy.
The inquisitiveness about potential uses of data kept growing as I moved to the US for my graduate studies. At grad school, I took classes to learn advanced concepts of statistics, machine learning, and data science.
My inquisitiveness about potential uses of data kept growing...
In my current role as a cybersecurity professional, I rely on security tools and platforms that ingest huge data sets and show actionable insights to keep the network secure. By donning all of these different hats in the past eight years of my professional journey, I have come to realize that the use of data is imperative to the success of projects regardless of their domain.
What excites you most about working with data and AI?
The might of data is immense! Even with the plethora of AI startups rising each day, we are just scratching the surface.
Having seen numerous applications of AI and machine learning, the ones that create a social or human impact are the most meaningful to me.
AI and data-driven technologies possess immeasurable potential, and there are tons of market segments that are yet untapped. Having seen numerous applications of AI and machine learning, the ones that create a social or human impact are the most meaningful to me. I remember watching a video of an AI-based mobile application that uses phone camera and audio instructions to help blind people navigate while walking. Such implementations are testaments to the value that AI and data can create in our lives.
Describe an interesting project that you have worked on.
As a cybersecurity professional, my job is to advise and implement solutions that strengthen the security posture for client organizations. With cybersecurity technology getting more sophisticated with each passing day, it is difficult to keep AI out of it.
One of the most exciting engagements I worked on included an assessment of the client’s security operations center infrastructure. As I delved into the tools deployed by the client, I realized the prowess of AI-powered SIEM and threat monitoring tools.
With cybersecurity technology getting more sophisticated with each passing day, it is difficult to keep AI out of it.
By introducing AI technology to their regular Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tool, the client was able to speed up detection and response times, identify false positives, and perform automated threat hunting. It is reassuring for the cyber fraternity to see such advancements in the performance of security tools due to AI technology.
