2023 Semiconductor Transformation Study
Business transformation in the semiconductor industry
From bolstering supply chain resiliency to advancing new business models, there’s no shortage of transformation happening in the semiconductor industry. So we teamed up with the Global Semiconductor Alliance to better understand what’s driving this era of transformation across the semiconductor value chain.
The state of the semiconductor industry
The semiconductor industry is amid a highly transformative time in its history. Companies across the semiconductor value chain are embracing different forms of everything-as-a-service (XaaS) models encompassing offerings such as design, yield management, analytics, and software. Such business model transformation not only uncovers new markets and revenue streams, but also enhances customer experience (CX), which has become a top priority for most companies.
To follow our inaugural Semiconductor Transformation Study in 2021 and better understand what’s driving this era of transformation, Deloitte collaborated with the Global Semiconductor Alliance to survey 36 top industry executives and develop a second edition of the Semiconductor Transformation Study.
Here’s a glimpse into this year’s findings:
- Supply chain complexity/continuity, geopolitical concerns, and weakening consumer demand have emerged as the top drivers of strategic business priorities
- Product development, sales and marketing, and talent development continue to be the top capability areas critical to transformation
- 31% of respondents say supply chain resilience is a strategic priority, up from 6% pre-pandemic
- More companies feel IT is aligned with their transformation efforts, reaching 56% compared to 37% in 2021

Six transformation imperatives
In our 2023 study, we found that two-thirds of the represented companies are actively engaged in ongoing transformation initiatives. And responses indicate that many are in the early stages (e.g., first year) of an expected three-year average transformation duration.
