Joel Sonkin

Joel is a Climate Change Specialist Leader in Deloitte's US Government and Public Services practice. He brings more than 15 years of experience working on climate change mitigation and adaptation programs, both working in the public sector and as a consultant advising public and private sector clients. He specializes in climate change-related physical and transition risk assessment, risk reduction roadmap development, as well as organization-wide decarbonization strategy and implementation. As Specialist Leader, Joel is responsible for directing GPS' Strategic Risk Climate Team and is a key contributor to the GPS Climate Action Team. Prior to his current role, Joel held senior positions in local and federal government, ran a Resilience and Energy Transition practice for AECOM leading climate action and resilience plans for federal, state, and local clients, and has served as a global technical and policy advisor for climate adaptation plans in San Francisco, Miami, Oahu, Jeddah, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
