Jonathan specializes in transactional tax planning, including structuring and financing corporate acquisitions and dispositions and advising on corporate restructurings. In addition, he has significant experience advising troubled companies, both in and out of bankruptcy, and has focused on considerations for preserving favorable tax attributes. Jonathan practices extensively before the Internal Revenue Service and has obtained favorable rulings on a variety of federal corporate, consolidated return, and S corporation issues. Before joining Deloitte, Jonathan served as an attorney-advisor in the Office of Tax Policy of the US Department of the Treasury where he advised the assistant secretary of the treasury (tax policy) on legal issues in the context of tax legislation and administration.
Jonathan is active in bar-related activities and is the former chair of the Affiliated and Related Committee of the American Bar Association (ABA) Tax Section. He regularly speaks on consolidated return and corporate tax issues at ABA Tax Section, Practising Law Institute’s Consolidated Tax Return program, Federal Bar Association, and DC Bar Association events.
Jonathan earned a BA from Vanderbilt University and a JD from Boston University School of Law.
