Kristen Cove

Kristen is Deloitte’s Chief Tax Clients & Markets Officer and was Deloitte's National Service Line Leader for Multistate Tax Services from January 2020 - June 2023. Deloitte’s multistate practice has 2,200 professionals focused on all areas of multistate income, franchise and indirect taxes for our clients. Kristen has twenty-eight years of public accounting experience and began her career as a federal tax professional. For the last twenty-five years, she has specialized in multistate income & franchise tax consulting focusing on high value nonstructural and structural state tax opportunities for companies via the identification and implementation of state tax refund and filing opportunities as well as restructuring and operational alignment opportunities.

Throughout her career with Deloitte, Kristen has led Deloitte’s State Strategic Tax Review (“SSTR”) group. She also developed the first innovation team for multistate tax services. In this role, Kristen was responsible for the development of the latest opportunities for technical multistate positions, monitoring legislation and litigation developments and creating new opportunities for clients with respect to their multistate tax posture. Kristen also served as Deloitte’s MTS Growth Leader, where she was responsible for developing the approach for the multistate growth and marketplace strategy. Kristen also was a member of Deloitte’s Board Council from 2017-2019 and a member of the Board’s Risk and Regulatory Committee.
She has significant experience with all areas of multistate including state and local tax planning for corporate mergers, acquisitions and dispositions, and developing tax planning strategies for complex corporate transactions. She focuses on bringing the value of SSTR projects to our clients across the country for clients in numerous industries with a focus on the Life Science industry as well as the Technology, Telecom, Media and Entertainment industries.

Kristen received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting as well as her Master of Professional Accountancy – Taxation from Clemson University and is a certified public accountant in North Carolina and South Carolina. She is a member of the AICPA and North Carolina and South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants.
