Peter practices in all areas of Federal Tax Accounting with particular emphasis on the timing of income and deductions and tax accounting in M&A. Peter has extensive experience with the newly issued IRC section 451 regulations providing important guidance on revenue recognition as a result of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Prior to joining Deloitte, Peter was a Senior Counsel at the Internal Revenue Service’s Office of Associate Chief Counsel (Income Tax & Accounting).
Peter is a frequent speaker at American Bar Association, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and Federal Bar Association on topics including revenue recognition. Prior to joining the IRS, Peter worked for another accounting firm and spent more than 10 years in industry, including teaching as an Adjunct Professor and serving in the United States Navy Reserve.
Peter earned his JD from West Virginia University College of Law, an LLM in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center and holds an MBA from Purdue University as well as a Masters’ degree in public policy from Carnegie Mellon University. Peter is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia and before the U.S. Tax Court and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
