Steven M. Ward, Ph.D.

Dr. Ward leads the Climate and Sustainability Sciences portion of the Sustainability and ESG Services team within Deloitte’s Audit & Assurance business. He joined the Audit & Assurance Sustainability and ESG Services team in November 2021 with over 20 years of experience in the Environmental, Geospatial and Climate Industry. Steven is a Bayer Scientific Fellow whose prior work experience includes leading Geospatial Data Science at Oak Ridge National Lab as well as remote sensing, atmospheric and weather science at the Climate Corporation. Working across private industry and Academia, Steven has published peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters on climate related physical risks and social vulnerability. In addition to his current role with Deloitte & Touche LLP, he continues to lecture at universities, serve on technical advisory boards at NASA and peer review academic journals. Dr. Ward also supports the Deloitte Foundation providing executive education sessions on Climate Risk to finance and accounting Doctoral students and faculty.

Steven and the ESG team advise clients on assessment, analysis and communications related to scientific methods, data analysis and applied research. Throughout his career he has led dozens of sustainability and environmental research projects/programs for private industry and government customers across the globe. His experience in this space is technology focused with an emphasis on GISciences, remote sensing, scaled computation and AI/ML methods.

Steven received his Ph.D., Masters and Bachelor’s degrees in Environmental Management, Chemistry, Agronomy and Hazards Geography from Louisiana State University.
