Valerie Dickerson

Valerie is a senior partner in Deloitte Tax LLP’s Washington National Tax practice (WNT) who specializes in multistate taxation, advising clients regarding the state and local tax implications of significant transactions, restructurings, mergers & acquisitions, controversies, and filing positions, and represents clients in disputes with state tax authorities. She serves clients across industries, including service industries, technology, media, financial services, and heathcare. She has particular expertise in California franchise tax consulting and controversy resolutions.

Valerie also leads initiatives that strengthen key connections between WNT specialists, clients service teams in the field, and our clients across multiple industries and geographies. She is the co-chair of Deloitte’s National Multistate Tax Symposium, a board member of the Deloitte Foundation, a board member of Executive Committee to the Taxation Section of the California Lawyers Association, an advisory board member for State Tax Analysts and sponsor of the periodic column, Inside Deloitte. She is a frequent speaker at programs hosted by Tax Executives Institute (TEI), Committee on State Taxation (COST), Institute for Professionals in Tax (IPT), and other state tax conferences.

Valerie received her JD from Georgia State University College of Law and her BA in accounting from Emory University, Goizueta School of Business. She received the 2017 Benjamin F. Miller Award from the California State Bar Taxation Section for her contributions in state and local taxation. She is a member of the Bar in California and D.C. and a licensed CPA in California, D.C. and Georgia. Prior to joining Deloitte, she acquired several years of experience at another Big Four firm and at an oil and gas company.
