Advancing our inclusive culture: perspectives from our leaders
Hear from Terri Cooper, our chief inclusion officer (CIO), about what Deloitte is doing to ensure an inclusive culture where people can connect, belong, and grow.
A message from Deloitte’s CIO, Terri Cooper
Today, the demand for inclusion is only growing. Many organizations are earnestly trying to cultivate inclusive cultures and often ask me what Deloitte has learned on our 25-plus-year journey and what are we focused on now.
We have learned a few lessons along the way—tone at the top is essential and inclusion should be seamlessly embedded into the talent experience. To truly shift forward, we should challenge the status quo, redefining leadership and rethinking the role that each of us can play. In today’s world, organizations are only as strong as their people and, ultimately, their cultures.
Now is the time to challenge unconscious bias and strengthen our commitment to fostering an inclusive culture. It’s also up to each of us to embody the traits of inclusive leadership and bring that to our organizations on a daily basis.
This is what I am focused on in my role as Deloitte’s chief inclusion officer, fostering an environment where everyone, regardless of who they are or who else is at the table, feels that they can connect, belong, and grow.

Ingrid Gonzalez, manager, Deloitte Consulting LLP
"What I like most about Deloitte is the spirit of collaboration, the certainty that you can reach out to a colleague and get a response back knowing that they are going to do their best to help out. I really enjoyed establishing my network because I like working in teams."
Aaron Brown, manager, Deloitte & Touche LLP
"I’d take two lessons from Deloitte … making sure that your people come first. Happy people make for a successful company. And then … not everybody should have the same mentality. You should definitely have diversity on your team, different people with different skill sets."
Sylvia Taylor, senior consultant, Deloitte & Touche LLP
"When you're 22, fresh out of college, and exposed to real-world clients for the first time, it's tough because you don't have that life experience yet. When I came back to Deloitte, I had that experience, and it helped me adapt again to the professional world."
