Grant specializes in federal tax accounting issues, including accounting methods and periods, general principles of income and deduction, capitalization, uniform capitalization (UNICAP) rules, and inventory accounting. He is a member of the Deloitte Tax Cryptocurrency Working Group and works extensively on the novel tax accounting issues arising from cryptocurrencies and blockchain.
Prior to joining Deloitte, Grant was a senior counsel with the Income Tax and Accounting division of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Office of Chief Counsel. While there, he specialized in general issues involving tax accounting methods, inventories, and uniform capitalization and was the drafter and contact person for the accounting method change procedures.
Grant is a member of the American Institute of CPAs Technical Resource Panel on Tax Methods & Periods. He is a frequent instructor at Deloitte Tax trainings.
Grant received his BA and MA in linguistics from the University of Chicago and a JD and MB in taxation from the University of Minnesota.
