Accepting help and holding hope for the future
Julia Simon was raised to be confident, which helped her make bold career decisions. The chief legal officer and corporate secretary, chief diversity officer, and senior privacy officer at Mary Kay Inc. shares her experiences of transitioning between external and in-house practice, the benefits of stepping outside her comfort zone and being grateful to those who helped her grow.
Editor’s note: Julia Simon has become a partner at Lynn Pinker Hurst & Schwegmann LLP since this episode was released.
Leading a life that’s not based on standards set by others
In this episode, Julia discusses how she created a thriving career by getting outside her comfort zone and developing new skills. With a wide breadth of experience across legal, board, privacy, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Julia has remained true to her personal purpose and has grown into the role of leader and strategist.
How does she balance the demands of her professional life with the daily responsibilities of being a mother? She is never afraid to ask for help. She believes in the power of her village and never forgets her purpose.
People talk about representation and role models and those sorts of things. And there certainly is something to that because I think you sometimes can only dream as big as what you see or what you read or what you hear.
