Can you avoid moving to the cloud? No, and why would you?
Part of the For Cloud Professionals podcast series
Yes, there's complexity in the cloud journey, but that doesn't mean that the cloud isn't the place to be now, and in the future. As cloud adoption rises, it's important to understand which apps are right for the cloud and to manage complexity to make cloud adoption easier.
The cloud journey may be complex, but it's the still the future of IT
As cloud adoption rates soar, cloud complexity is increasing, which is causing a rebound effect for some who argue that maybe the cloud isn’t the solution for everything. To be sure, cloud adoption rates will never be 100 percent, and it’s important to note that the cloud may not be right for every IT application. However, there is no doubt that, as the strategic advantage of the cloud becomes ever more apparent, at least partial cloud adoption will become an even greater business imperative. On this episode of the podcast, David Linthicum and guest, Stephen Foskett, discuss the rising pushback against cloud adoption in the face of growing complexity and security concerns and argue that, despite the complexity, cloud is still the future of IT. Stephen also gives advice on how to make the transition to cloud easier for companies that need that extra nudge to get started.
We're getting to a point where, even if we're cloud down-players, which there are some people out there who are still doing that, you've got to look at the inevitable truth that [the cloud] is where everything is going.
Stephen Foskett specializes in enterprise storage, server virtualization, networking, and cloud computing. He organizes the popular Tech Field Day event series for Gestalt IT, runs Foskett Services, has authored numerous articles for industry publications, and is a popular presenter at industry events.
