Deloitte + Oracle + energy

Alliance empowers clients to accelerate 'next'

Deloitte and Oracle combine Deloitte’s deep experience in the Energy, Industrials, and Resources (ER&I) industries with Oracle’s innovative cloud technologies to create a platform that can be used for acceleration, ideation, and transformation that equips energy companies to accelerate 'next'.

About our alliance

The Energy, Resources and Industrials (ER&I) industry and its subsectors are undergoing a seismic shift that is upending traditional business and operating models. Among current change agents:

  • Cost pressures arising from fluctuating commodity prices are a key driver of efficiency measures and organizational reinvention.
  • Renewables driven by government mandates for net zero emissions and next-generation clean technology are becoming a major investment area.
  • Environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations are playing a larger role in M&A transactions.
  • Post-pandemic supply chain disruption and sourcing challenges are leading to greater investment in next-generation enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to mitigate risks, better connect supply chains, integrate and automate operations, and unlock new value streams.
  • Digital transformation (cloud, 5G, artificial intelligence/machine learning, smart factory, digital FTEs) are facilitating the automation and optimization of business processes.
  • Rising threats and high-profile cyberattacks are leading the industry to new levels of cybersecurity preparedness.
  • Companies are grappling with labor shortages and other talent challenges as the workforce landscape evolves.

In a world of continuous change, an organization’s next big idea, next product iteration, next competitive advantage may be just months, weeks, or days in the future.

Our alliance in action

A European waste-based biodiesel producer has a vision to help decarbonise transport worldwide. The company’s shift from discrete to process manufacturing placed increased focus on costing; however, huge variances were being generated during month-end processing. In addition, the organization had limited visibility into consolidated financial data and lacked real-time Integration with external upstream and downstream systems, causing stock reconciliation issues. Using its Momentum methodology, Deloitte standardized sales, procurement, costing, manufacturing, and finance business processes and developed a bolt-on custom solution integrating the client’s physical weighbridges with Oracle, enabling it to automate material movements with accurate quantity.

An industrial manufacturer of tires and wheels, serving customers in the agriculture, forestry, mining, and construction industries, had been operating on a set of disconnected and aging ERP applications, with limited visibility to consolidated financial data. To support its rapid growth, the client decided to go ‘all-in’ by implementing an end-to-end Oracle’s Cloud solution—Oracle ERP, SCM, EPM Cloud with Kronos, and RF-SMART—across its entire global footprint. The Deloitte-implemented solution replaced 30+ outdated legacy applications. Its single, global platform provides communized master data management for items, customers, and suppliers, enabling increased supply chain visibility and improved reporting and analytics to manage costs and profit. In addition, the solution provides efficient and effective management of the production environment, leading to better demand planning and asset maintenance.

A leading US integrated power company had undertaken a business transformation program which included initiatives to migrate and transform its existing Corporate EPM capabilities for budgeting and forecasting, and consolidation, leveraging Oracle EPBCS, OAC and HFM respectively, simplify current business processes. Deloitte designed and implemented a Financial Consolidation and Forecasting solution that integrates with SAP S4 and multiple auxiliary source systems.

A leading global consulting and engineering company operating across the energy and materials markets wanted to move into renewables, with a focus on high-margin services. Having grown through M&A over the years, the client had multiple ERP systems as well as disparate and inconsistent manual processes across geographies, making budgetary control, procurement tail spend, and cost control big challenges. The client wanted to introduce a single source of truth and a global footprint. Deloitte designed solutions for Oracle Financials, Projects, Procurement and HCM in the areas of finance, operations, HR, and enterprise business intelligence for use throughout the enterprise. Deloitte also streamlined 500 processes down to 125 and reduced customisations (reports, extensions, interfaces) by 90%.
