Media Supply Chain Transformation Services

Reimagining content production, management, and distribution

The media landscape has evolved, creating new opportunities for traditional media players, content monetizers and organizations from other industries using video to unlock value. To deliver content through any distribution channel and seize these opportunities, the right business model, processes, talent and technology all need to be in place.

The new rules of the media supply chain: Any content, anywhere, any time

At the core of a modern content operation lies a collection of media ready to be delivered, along with the tools to prepare and deliver it successfully wherever the business needs it to be. Organizations must create a reality where newly produced content, including livestreams, is acquired smoothly. The library of existing media must be organized and enriched with all the metadata downstream services require. Usage rights must be thoroughly understood and fed automatically into business rules governing the operation. The technologies to package or reformat files and move them speedily over data networks to their destination must be available in readily reconfigurable, automated workflow processes.

Operational agility and cost control

Content creators and owners need to deliver more content, more efficiently, and across more platforms at increased scale. Organizations must overcome traditional roadblocks, such as operational and workflow inefficiencies and disparate on-premises technologies that do not adapt quickly to changing workflow needs or new delivery specifications. In doing so, they can be free of legacy technologies that are often expensive to manage and maintain and have limits of scale or performance.

Unlock, measure, and maximize content value

In the new media landscape, companies must recognize and maximize the value of any content both internally produced and externally acquired throughout the organization. It requires careful measurement and tracking of the use, and even the value realized, from the organization’s media. To truly maximize asset value, the focus must shift to the curation and quality of the content library itself, rather than the mechanics of servicing requests.

Metadata: The underlying enabler

Effective metadata is critical. It is just as much part of the media product as video and audio. Clean, harmonized metadata drives the highest levels of content discovery (both B2B and B2C) and reduces the cost and lost time from incorrect orders and erroneous deliveries. Automation, impactful taxonomy design, master data management, and consistent metadata models all contribute to effective business outcomes throughout the media pipeline.

Complex accounting and financial reporting services

We can also help you work through complex accounting questions related to accounting standards, transactions, and/or key areas of complexity such as revenue and equity. We can provide internal control implementation support, training on Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and internal control, among other internal control-related services.

Data and insights for smarter operations

Upstream of media consumer data, analytics measuring the performance of an organization’s content pipeline, including automation and operator touchpoints, not only greatly enhances day to day business effectiveness, but can also raise content value (e.g., video recognition to retrieve relevant clips within a deep archive). Next generation operations monitor by exception, and truly minimize “eyes on glass.” The technologies to instrument the pipeline and deliver these enhanced analytics are already available—the challenge lies in deploying them effectively.

Rethinking talent strategy
skills

Media organizations today need a wide range of skills: From traditional broadcast technologies to sophisticated data storage, a broad range of software and systems integration capabilities, specialized subject-matter knowledge, and the ability to work effectively with creative teams. Organizations need a strategy to compete effectively for high-demand, diverse talent in a swiftly evolving marketplace, along with program of thoughtful change management to integrate new people and skills and the nimbleness to keep the talent pipeline aligned with changing needs.

Integration: End-to-end thinking is critical

Whether integrating new media systems or developing customized solutions, building out new and reimagined facility installations or transforming from on-premise to a cloud-first architecture, the most effective content operations take a holistic, end-to-end perspective. Keeping this front of mind every step of the way in design, development, cybersecurity, testing, deployment, and operational sustainment helps ensure maximum agility and responsiveness in adapting workflows as new business opportunities and models emerge.

Where we've done it

With new content demands, advanced technology, and an ever-evolving competitive landscape, organizations face a unique set of challenges that we can help address. We’ve helped clients tackle their toughest challenges across the content supply chain.

Future of broadcasting at leading station group

Challenge: Client recognized a need to transform its broadcast engineering operations from inflexible legacy technology and process to a nimble, adaptable operating model with a future-focused suite of platforms, capabilities and operating procedures.

Solution: We helped the organization redefine its operating model from a nationally distributed one to a centralized hub. This included identifying target markets for the new centralized operation, redesigning the organization, redefining job roles and required skills, and designing the technology solutions to support it.

Cloud transformation program at national broadcaster

Challenge: Client wanted to migrate its technology and operations to cloud in order to realize new operational savings.

Solution: We planned and led a multiyear transformation program to redesign the client’s broadcast operations and deliver up to 30% in annual operational savings through cloud-enabled scalability and automation.

Data and rights management at larger broadcaster

Challenge: Client wanted to replace its collection of bespoke, legacy systems that required significant manual effort to more effectively track and manage streaming rights.

Solution: We designed a new technical solution and metadata taxonomy to manage rights and automate distribution rules across streaming digital platforms.
