Artificial intelligence for cybersecurity: The benefits and pitfalls

Leading Conversations in AI July session: Virginia Tech

Our fifth event in the series focused on conversations around the use of AI for cybersecurity, the business case for investing in AI models, data privacy risks, and ethical guidelines required for managing risks associated with AI for cybersecurity.

Leading Conversations in AI

On March 8, 2021, the Deloitte AI Institute launched a monthly series, called “Leading Conversations in AI,” to discuss top-of-mind AI topics with leading experts from startups, enterprises, academia, and research groups. This is a virtual event and open to everyone interested to learn more about AI. The most interesting aspect of this series is that all our speakers will always be women and our humble attempt to highlight women in AI role models.

Throughout the series, our speakers will dive deep into a multitude of dimensions of AI in each session - conversational AI, robotics, ethics, scaling AI, Future of Work, diversity in AI, synthetic data, MLOps, neuromorphic computing, computer vision, data and AI governance, speech recognition and many more.

Our fifth event in the series focused on conversations around the use of AI for cybersecurity, the business case for investing in AI models, data privacy risks, and ethical guidelines required for managing risks associated with AI for cybersecurity.

Panelists included:

  • Dr. Laura Freeman, Director, Intelligent Systems Lab at the Virginia Tech’s Hume Center for National Security
  • Dr. Janine Hiller, Director of Integrated Security Program, College of Business in Pamplin.

The panel brings with itself a rich expertise across the areas of statistics, aerospace, cyber law and policy. Through questions led by Genevieve Oudar, here are some of the interesting topics that emerged from the rich conversations of the panel members.
