Deloitte Joins National Academy of Medicine’s Climate Collaborative to Help Decarbonize Health Sector

Public-private initiative will strengthen sustainability across the American health care ecosystem

ARLINGTON, Va., May 25, 2022 — Underscoring its commitment to take action on the climate crisis, Deloitte has joined the National Academy of Medicine’s (NAM) Action Collaborative on Decarbonizing the U.S. Health Sector (Climate Collaborative), a public-private effort working to mitigate the sector’s environmental impact while strengthening its sustainability and resilience.

“Working closely with the National Academy of Medicine and stakeholders across the health care sector, Deloitte will help strengthen health systems, reduce carbon emissions and bolster resiliency while improving health equity and health outcomes for patients across the country,” said Rana Sen, managing director, Deloitte Consulting LLP, and the Deloitte government and public services (GPS) practice leader for sustainability and climate alliances and assets. “We’re honored to work with this distinguished group of leaders to proactively address the climate crisis.”

The Climate Collaborative represents a diverse group of organizations, including health care providers, hospital systems, education institutions, nonprofits and federal agencies. Deloitte is the largest professional services firm in the Climate Collaborative.

“We’re proud to join this public-private effort to address the climate crisis and improve the long-term health of our communities,” said Deborah Sills, principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP, and the global consulting leader for Deloitte’s government and public services (GPS) practice. “By reducing carbon emissions across the entire U.S. health care sector, we can make a meaningful difference in our critical and collective effort to build a more resilient and sustainable health care system for future generations.”

Deloitte recently announced a $1 billion investment in its global sustainability and climate practice to help clients infuse sustainability into their core operations. Deloitte also launched a new alliance with the University of Colorado Boulder to translate cutting-edge climate research and data into meaningful climate solutions for communities and federal, state and local government agencies.

Deloitte’s long-standing commitment to climate action includes a concerted effort to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, a robust climate change education program for Deloitte professionals and a dedicated team working to create innovative climate solutions and applications.
