Deloitte HBCU Emerging Leaders Program

HBCU students from around the country are gearing up to attend Deloitte's Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) on April 19-21 at Deloitte University. The program is designed to help students gain first-hand exposure to the professional services industry and have a chance to be awarded a $10,000 scholarship.

We spoke to some of our scholarship winners from last year who shared what they learned from the program and why students should apply.

What did you take away from the Emerging Leaders Program?
What I took from the ELP is there’s always space for self-development. And when you invest in yourself, it reflects and can help you stand out.

Would you encourage students to apply and why?
Yes, I’d encourage students to apply because the program brings a lot of awesome people together. You get to meet people just starting their careers and also established professionals in their respective careers. Those connections can end up becoming priceless. Also winning the scholarship out of so many people is one of the best experiences ever.

What did you take away from the Emerging Leaders Program?
My participation in the ELP bestowed upon me a wealth of knowledge and mentorship from leaders who mirror my own background. The experience of engaging in six rounds of interviews with a diverse group of individuals instilled in me newfound confidence.

Would you encourage students to participate and why?
I would recommend students take part in such a program due to the invaluable mentorship that one can obtain during the process. The overall experience, the competitive nature of the competition, and the interviews conducted have all significantly contributed to shaping me into the professional I am today.

What did you take away from the Emerging Leaders Program?
My takeaway from the ELP was to be adaptive when encountering new situations. I maintained a positive attitude and did my best throughout the program, which allowed me to succeed.

What was most memorable from the program?
The most memorable experience was connecting with all of the other participants. I made lifelong friendships and expanded my network tremendously.

Would you encourage students to participate and why?
Yes, I would encourage students to participate because it allows them to sharpen their communication skills and creativity. The knowledge that is gained from this program can help them in their careers.

Something I’ve taken away from ELP is the ability to network with people while also being able to sell yourself.

What was most memorable from the program?
My most memorable moment about ELP besides winning the scholarship would be arriving at Deloitte University and being able to network with students and professionals from all over.

Would you encourage students to participate and why?
I would encourage my peers to take part in this amazing program because it helps you connect with a number of people and it's just an overall amazing experience.
