Dic Donohue: Resilient podcast

Resilience in the line of fire

How can you take personal adversity and learn to use that experience to positively impact your life—and the lives of others? Retired Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Sergeant Dic Donohue explains how he’s been able to find a silver lining after the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

Dic Donohue, (ret) MBTA sergeant, on resilience in the line of fire

Sometimes failure just isn’t an option. And for those facing personal struggles, resilience is often defined by small victories on a long road to recovery. Sergeant Donohue walks us through the night he was injured while in pursuit of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombers and his journey back from the brink of death.

He also discusses the importance of knowing when to ask for help—and why that was one of the hardest things for him to learn how to do.

There’s no option to fail in recovery. When your heart stops for 40 minutes and you survive, that’s resilience.
